Kathleen Moak Cheshire

On the morning of July 12, 2022, Kathleen Moak Cheshire passed away. She was comforted by her family and caregivers at her daughter Stephanie’s home in West Palm Beach, Florida at the time of her passing.

She was 96 years old. Born in Gastonia, North Carolina on March 17th, 1926, she was the only daughter of 3 children of the late Andrew and Maude Moak.

She met her husband of 65 years (and high school sweetheart), the late Dr. David Wilson Cheshire at Fletcher Academy boarding school in Fletcher, North Carolina where she also later received her Nursing degree. Kathleen worked as a private duty Registered Nurse on the Hollywood movie sets in Los Angeles and later as a civilian Nurse for 8 years in a military hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1968, Kathleen and her family resided on Beach Avenue in Atlantic Beach, Florida. While she loved living in Atlantic Beach, her heart was in North Carolina. So, in 1974, she began spending her summers at the family’s equestrian farm, Red Top Farm in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

She loved long walks around the farm with her beloved and faithful companion poodle Lola, loved the community of the Red Top Farm boarders and their horses, loved her garden, and looked forward to her family and her best friend Betty to arrive to spend the summers in one of the cottages on the farm. Winters were spent in Palm Beach, Florida with her family and grandchildren.

Kathleen was a faithful horse show Mom, gourmet cook, avid book reader, lover of beautiful antiques and flowers, a deliverer of great words of wisdom, and lover of dance.

With all of her loves in life, her first and foremost loves were being a Mom, a wife, a Grandmother, and most recently a Great Grandmother. Her endless love, dedication, and gracefulness was apparent to all that met her. She showed up and was present in your life. Pure elegance, beauty, charm, and full of southern etiquette. A precious gift from God.

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Lynn Cheshire and Elizabeth Ann Cheshire; sons, David Winston Cheshire(Vera), Christopher Paul Cheshire; grandchildren, Olivia Cates, Erin and Michael Ringler (Maria),  McKinley and, Katherine Cheshire; great-granddaughter Emma Rose Ringler; sister-in-law Margaret Brennan Cheshire and nephews McKinley and Eric Cheshire. A special thank you to Diana Rowe, Cynthia Burke, and Beryl Styles for your care and dedication to Kathleen. A special thank you to Mickey Weissman for all of your support and kindness to Kathleen.

3/A funeral service will be held on July 21, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. John in the Wilderness, 1895 Greenville Highway, Flat Rock,  North Carolina. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Cemetery.
