Karen Sue Fiala, 86, of Ely, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Karen was born March 17, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Andrew and Grace (Wilde) Clark.
She attended Rogers Grove country school, Mt. Vernon High School and Iowa State University.
She was united in marriage to John Robert Stull in 1960. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1965. On May 24, 1968, she married Dave Fiala in Ely, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1998. Karen and Dave raised six children.
Karen was employed for 20 years at Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric. After retiring from there she went to work at Tanager Place for another 20 years.
She enjoyed the Card Club at the Ely Community Center and cheering on her beloved Iowa State Cyclones.
Survivors include her children, Denise Taylor of Ely, Iowa, Angie O’Brien (Jack) of Kingsland, Georgia, Andy Stull (Kathy) of Bettendorf, Iowa, Andy Fiala of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Scott Fiala (Tami) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sue Abarr (Mike) of Ankeny, Iowa; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Clark of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Will Clark of Georgetown, Texas, and Glen (Crystal) Clark of Galena, Illinois; sister-in-law, Pat Clark of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a host of beloved cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barb Clark; brother, Mark Clark; and sisters-in-law, Carol Clark and Lois Clark.
Karen will be remembered for her warm spirit and a life well lived. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished by her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held on March 17, 2026, as we remember her on her special day.
