Judith “Judy” Gaither

Judith “Judy” Gaither, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was born on February 12, 1948 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles William and Joanne McCarthy Crumly. She married Leonard “Len” Gaither on September 9, 1977 and he survives.

Also surviving are her four daughters, Leigh (Jeff Kallister) Hayes of Rochester, Shannon (Nick) Miner of Champaign, Mary (Michael) Belford of Springfield, and Samantha (Nathan Waters) Gaither of Riverton; 11 grandchildren, Tanner Miner, Hunter Hayes, Seth Belford, Chase Hayes, Brett Miner, Shelby Belford, Nathan Catlin, Griffin Waters, Kiya Waters, Kashton Kallister, and Oliver Miner; three sisters, Cindy (Ed) House, Mindy Crumly and Missy Crumly, all of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles William and brother, Charles William “Billy” Crumly II.

Judy was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Parish and Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was employed by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health and Environmental Protection Agency, retiring after 25 years of service as a lab technician. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears and Notre Dame. She enjoyed fishing and many other outdoor activities. Judy enjoyed playing BINGO with her daughters and friends. Family meant everything to Judy and she absolutely adored her grandchildren.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A private prayer service will be held before visitation.

Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Christopher House and Reverend Jim Isaacson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
