Joyce Ann (Monaghan) Hills, 77, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She was born on October 6, 1946, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Eugene J. and Marcella P. (Fosdick) Monaghan. Joyce grew up in Keota attending St. Mary grade school and graduating from Keota High School in 1964. After high school, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked for Craemer’s Department Store, Morris Plan, Century 21 Real Estate, and Nash Finch.

Joyce married Don White and welcomed her daughter, Ann Marie, in 1969. They later divorced. In 1972, she married Larry Hills, the love of her life, and welcomed Don, Charlotte, and Karen into her life. They enjoyed a full life together for 49 years until his death in 2022. They lived in Marion and Lake Delhi until moving to Manchester in 2017. She was active in St. John Catholic Church and was a teacher associate at Maquoketa Valley School. In 1991, their grandson, Brando, joined them bringing many exciting and proud moments and new friends into their lives.

Faith and family were a priority in her life and daily living. Joyce loved family get togethers, especially with the great-grandchildren. She also loved all music, cards, Hallmark movies, reading, Bunko, and a good chat session.

Survivors include her children, Brando (Cally) Hills, Don (Deb) Hills, Charlotte Hills, and Karen (Kurt) Burdick; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Pat (Lenay) Monaghan, Mike (Jerrie) Monaghan, Mary Lee (Joe) Praetz, Kathleen Monaghan, and Tom (Charlene) Monaghan; sisters-in-law, Gena Hills, Att Hills, and Rita Hills; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lawrence (Larry) Hills; daughter, Ann Marie White; her parents; her sister, Janice; her parents-in-law, Herbert and Josephine Hills; brothers-in-law, Jim Hills and John Hills; special niece, Melissa Praetz; nephew, Chris Monaghan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joyce will forever be remembered as a wonderful, caring wife, mother and grandmother, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary service. Friends may also call from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. before the service at the church on Saturday.

Interment: St. John Catholic Cemetery – Delhi, Iowa.
