John Terrence McClung

John Terrence McClung, 71, of Etowah, left his Earthly home to join Jesus Christ in Heaven.

John Terrence McClung was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, on January of 1951. He was the son of Col. Boniface D. McClung and Gladys D. McClung who have both predeceased him.

John is survived by his wife Anne E. McClung of Etowah, NC; son Gregory C. McClung and wife Madison of Hudson, FL; and his brother Joseph “Mike” McClung and wife Sherrie of Brevard, NC.

John grew up in a military family and attended seventeen schools in thirteen years before he enlisted in the US Army in January 1971. He served his country with distinction in both the United States and Vietnam during his enlistment. Upon discharge from militarily service, he moved to the Tampa area of Florida where he worked at the Tampa Tribune for 30 years. After retiring he and his wife Anne moved to Lake Toxaway, NC, and eventually to Etowah, NC, in 2021.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville, NC.

A memorial mass will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church of Hendersonville; visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home.
