John S. Fickas

John S. Fickas, 80, of Springfield died at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 31, 2021 at McLean County Nursing Home. He was born October 4, 1941 in Springfield, IL to Joe and Edna (Sokolis) Fickas.

He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Ivan) Hanes of LeRoy, IL; three sons, John W. (Jill) Fickas of Pawnee, Roger (Lori) Fickas and Adam (Alisha) Fickas, both of Mechanicsburg; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Kenny) White of Texas and Virginia Conway of Granite City; three brothers, Joe Fickas and Bernie Schuerman, both of Springfield and Bob Schuerman of Selma, Alabama and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Nancy; one daughter at birth, Lori Lynn; two brothers, Raymond and Kenny Fickas and two sisters, Donna Melton and Sharon Crim.

John was a retired carpenter with Union Local #270 (formerly #16). He was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church. John was a member of the Moose Lodge in Pittsfield and was also a DJ.

Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, January 7, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Dr. John Shear officiating.

Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cumberland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
