John “Jay” Alexander Summey

John “Jay” Alexander Summey, 79, of Saluda, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 15, 2022, following a brief illness.

A lifelong native of Polk Co., Jay was born to the late Walter Dewitt and Francis Arkansas Summey.  He is also preceded in death by his loving daughter, Ronda Justus and sisters Viola Constance, Clara Summey Rose, and Janice Campbell.

Jay loved sports, hunting, and animals.  Jay was a softball player well into his fifties and was known by everyone for his ability to hit home runs on command and is still known for hitting the longest ball at Harmon field.

He also was a Major League Baseball fan and followed the Yankees year in and year out and would always get excited when opening day arrived.

Also, a fan of the NC Tarheels, Jay loved to watch basketball, especially the ACC Tournament and the final 64, but he really loved it when the Tarheels would beat Duke.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Peggy Jean Summey of Saluda, NC; daughter, Kimberly Jan Messer (Shane) of Cookeville, TN; grandsons, Lex Justus (Amanda) of Zirconia, NC and Lane Justus (fiancé, Madison Tweed) of Hendersonville, NC; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Parker, and Campbell; brother,

Walter Jerry Summey (Lola) of Hendersonville; and sister, Nancy Williams of Hendersonville, NC.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 2PM with Rev. Nathan Byrd officiating.
