John J. “Hank” Kapolka

John J. “Hank” Kapolka, 95 of Shadyside, Ohio died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Continuing Health Care of Shadyside in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was born June 12, 1926 son of the late Nick and Agnes Hortoski Kapolka.

Hank was a retired employee of the Ohio Edison’s R E Burger Power Station, a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Shadyside, Ohio, VFW Post 626 Life member, Bellaire, Ohio American Legion Post 521 Life member, Shadyside, Ohio, Ohio River Valley Elks 231 Life member, PAP Club Life member and Polish American Club, Lorain, Ohio Life member and Bellaire Eagles FOE 371. He was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Hornet during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Mett” Munas Kapolka on April 27, 1996; two sisters, Mary Moskal Rodgers and Helen DeFranko and one brother, Frank Moskal.

Surviving are his two sons, John J. (Diane) Kapolka of Grove City, Ohio and James J. (Cindy) Kapolka of Shadyside, Ohio, one grandson, James J. Kapolka, Jr. of Shadyside, Ohio and two nephews, Rick Rodgers of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Gary Rodgers of Shadyside, Ohio.

Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory 3900 Central Avenue Shadyside, Ohio on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am at the St. Mary Catholic Church Shadyside with Fr. Daniel Heusel, as Celebrant. Interment in the Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Point, Ohio with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
