John G. Gomez, 79, of Marion, IA, formerly of Silvis, IL, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, IA.

A memorial Celebration of Life will be held in John’s honor 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the VFW Post 8890, East Moline. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, assisted the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family in care of his daughter, Gidget Bregman.

John was born March 21, 1946, in Moline, IL, a son of Francisco “Frank” and Lupe (Negrete) Gomez. He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline.

He was an assembler for many years with International Harvester, East Moline.

John was an avid reader and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed playing the guitar and caring for his pet cats, “Molly and Louie”. He was always willing to help neighbors, friends and family when needed, and enjoyed phone conversations with them. He will be greatly missed by all.

Those left to cherish his memory are his life partner, Janice Burns, Marion, IA; children, Gidget (Jeff) Bregman, Davenport, IA, and Randy (Melissa) Gomez, Davenport, IA; Janice’s children, Corinna (John) McClellan, Ankeny, IA and their daughters, Lauren and Julia McClellan, and Kimberly (Ken) Long, Marion, IA, and their daughter, Kylie Long; grandchildren, Brian Kraklow (fiancée, Jen), Jerry Kraklow, Jesse (Paige) Bregman, and Casey (Brianna) Bregman, Nick Whitworth, Nathan Whitworth, Amanda Powell, Alyssa Powell, Jake Gomez, Trevor Gomez, and Adeline Bloomer-Gomez; great-grandchildren, Major, Hailey, Anastasia, Natalie, Ella, Skyler, Maverick, Charlotte, Payton, Morgan, Sawyer, Journey and Truett; sister, Cande (Fidel) Castellanos; and nieces and nephews, Fidel Castellanos, Jr., Jose Castellanos, Ana Maroon, Luanne Sasser, and Steven Villa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Lupe; and one sister, Nellie Villa.
