Cedar Rapids
Joel Edgar Emery III of Cedar Rapids passed away Sunday June 1st 2025 after fighting cancer. Joel’s wishes were that there be no services and to be cremated. The family stated that if someone wishes to donate that those donations be made to Unity Point Hospice.
Joel was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa on October 17, 1949 to Joel Edgar Emery II and Dorothy Emery. At age 9 the family moved to San Bernardino, California. In 1971 at the age of 21 Joel returned to Cedar Rapids and married Susan Edgerly in 1974 and had 2 children Holly and Kyle in the years that followed. In October 2000 Joel remarried to Noreen “Bo” (Davis) Emery and her sons Connor and Garrett.
Joel attended Kirkwood Community College for welding and had an extensive career in welding at Link-Belt FMC, Pickwick Manufacturing, and Mestek Machinery before retirement. He always said he could weld anything but a broken heart.
Joel loved music, live music, concerts and especially Little Feat. Which is a common interest that he and Bo shared over the years. They had become friends of the band and enjoyed traveling to concerts and Feat camp. Joel enjoyed woodworking and crafting things with his hands whether it was a hand made cane or cabinet keepsake or custom wood work for the house. But the things he enjoyed and loved the most were his family.
Joel is preceded in death by his parents Joel and Dorothy, and his siblings Pat Cirkl, Judy Paul and John Brody.
Survivors include his wife Noreen, his daughter Holly Smith, and sons Kyle Emery, Connor Jackson, and Garrett Jackson his grandchildren Elise Smith, Christa Emery, Kylee Heard, and TJ Heard.
Joel was loved and admired by many and will be greatly missed.
