Jody E. Ricklic

Jody E. Ricklic, 64, of New Philadelphia, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 in Aultman Hospital at Canton, following a brief illness.

Born October 14, 1957 in Union Hospital at Dover, she was the daughter of the late Julius and JoAnn (Sherrets) Ricklic. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Jody was active in Spanish Club, Ecology Club, Future Teachers of America and Junior Achievement of Tuscarawas County. After high school, she attended Rio Grande College where she was active in Kayetts, served as President of the Lambda Omicron Psi Sorority and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education Social Sciences Comprehensive Reading.

Upon her graduation, Jody began a long career as a reading teacher for grades 7 and 8 for Welty Middle School at New Philadelphia. She also taught both Math and Reading in the Summer Learning Lab. In 1990, Jody completed the coursework for her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction Reading at Kent State University. In her time away from teaching, Jody loved to travel throughout the United States and abroad. Visiting locations such as Ontario, Canada, Costa Rica, Bermuda and Europe.

Surviving is her husband, Dan Baker, of the residence, her step-daughter, Megan (Zach) Laflin of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Christopher Benjamin Laflin, Colton Wayne Laflin and Kenzie Rose Laflin; her sister, Shelly Leyman of Elbert, Colorado; her father-in-law, Gene Baker and her sister-in-law, Debbie Baker, both of Newcomerstown and her aunt, Lucy Ricklic of New Philadelphia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Rosemary Baker.

In keeping with Jody’s wishes, she is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a celebration of Jody’s life will be scheduled at a later date.
