Joan Beverly (Jacobus) Olinger

Joan Beverly (Jacobus) Olinger, 88, of Springfield, IL passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021, at The Villas Of Holly Brook. She was born on November 8, 1932 in Greenville, MI, to Hector “Jake” and Gladys (Ruch) Jacobus.

Joan graduated from Springfield High School in 1950. On October 20, 1951 she married John Wesley Olinger at the First Christian Church in Springfield.

She was a long-time member of the Jerome United Methodist Church since 1957. She served as Chairperson of the church’s Administrative Council.

Joan worked as Clerk for the Village of Jerome for twenty years, retiring in 1997. She also served as Secretary to the Jerome Planning and Zoning Commission, The Jerome Liquor Commission and as a volunteer at the Village Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy J. (Paul) Clites of Houston, TX, and son, Michael B. Olinger of Springfield.

She has six grandchildren, Melissa “Missy” (Alex) Block of Springfield; Michelle (Allen) Blume of Bastrop, TX; Michael W. (Kristen) Olinger of Springfield; Brianne Olinger of Springfield; Jonathan (Victoria) Clites of Houston, TX; and Ashley (John Kaufmann) Whitten of Conroe, TX.

In addition, she also has ten great grandchildren, Allyssa Blume of Bastrop, Tx; Jonathan, Madison, Julia and William Clites of Houston, TX; Olivia, Austin and Vivienne Whitten, and Carrie Anne and Cecelia Kaufmann of Conroe, TX.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John W. Olinger, and a twin son.

A private funeral service for family members will be held at Staab Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity Forever Home Feline Ranch for cat rescue (P.O. Box 9740, Springfield, IL 62791) or to the Jerome United Methodist Church (1570 Reed Ave., Springfield, IL 62704).
