Jasper S. Selvaggio

Jasper S. Selvaggio, 87, of Chatham, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Clara’s Rehab and Senior Care in Lincoln. He was born September 4, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Leo and Anna (Fiasconaro) Selvaggio. He married Carolyn L. Lynn on October 16, 1993 and she survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Teresa (Jeff) Schmid of Chatham, Andrea Selvaggio of El Paso, Janese (Mark) Henson of Rochester, and Marcelle (Michael Mattis) Selvaggio of Arlington Heights; four stepchildren, Keith Carver of St. Louis, Margaret (Tom) Blashill of Downers Grove, Kenneth Carver of Springfield, and Michael (Liz) Carver of Castle Rock, CO; 13 grandchildren, Noah, Benjamin and Ethan Schmid, Delaney and Ainsley Schnell, Luke, Grant and Audrey Henson, Charles Carver, Nick (Casey) and Alyssa Blashill, and Jack and Ella Carver; one great-grandchild, Lilly Wieland; sister-in-law, Anita Selvaggio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce (Husted) Selvaggio; and five siblings, Joe, Paul, Pat, and Vince Selvaggio and Pearl Mounce.

Jasper was a resident of Chatham and Springfield most of his life. He was a graduate of Lanphier High School. He was a longtime member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a part of their choir. More recently, Jasper was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham. He belonged to the Roman Cultural Society and Springfield Motorboat Club. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving from 1953 – 1957.

Jasper was an iron worker and the owner of Modern Ornamental Iron, which later merged with Selvaggio Steel, for over 50 years.  He enjoyed deer hunting and picked up wood working as a hobby. Jasper especially loved contributing to the  4^th of July festivities… He loved music and taught himself how to sing, play the guitar, piano and harmonica.

Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Joseph the Worker –

Chatham.

Funeral Mass: 12 pm, Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Joseph the Worker – Chatham, with Reverend Kevin Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker.
