Janet Lynn Strange

Janet Lynn Strange, died on May 30, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois following a stroke. Janet was born June 6, 1950 in Lawrenceville, Illinois to Robert Strange and Ramona Whitson Strange, the third of their four children.

Janet graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1972 with a BS in Education, Home Ec K-12. In 1992, she received her MSW from the University of Illinois. Janet was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and retired at the age of 51 from the Department of Children and Family Services. At DCFS, she worked with foster parents, resources, and the court system. After DCFS, she worked as Social Worker for the Clay County Public Health Dept. Hospice program and St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Janet was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She has been an Asst. Leader for the Top ‘Notcher’s 4-H Club. Janet was Librarian for the Ann Crooker St. Clair Chapter of the National Society Daughters of The American Revolution. Janet’s love and care for children, country, and community was made known in many ways throughout her life.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Erickson of Hendersonville, TN, brother, Samuel Strange of Effingham, IL, stepmother, Dixie Strange of Lawrenceville, IL, step grandmother, Catherine Morgan, and many cousins. Special friends including Kaitlin Rodgers & family, Sue Heth, Nancy Goldtrap, and many others.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Family Mental Health Support at PO Box 1726, Effingham, IL 62401 or DAR at 803 W. Jourdan St. #B3, Newton, IL 62448.
