Jacquelyn “Jackie” Glea Hutcheson, 87, lifelong resident of Iowa City, died suddenly Sunday, June 16, 2024, at The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Kirkwood Avenue Church of Christ. Inurnment will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kirkwood Church of Christ.
Jackie was born at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City on December 26, 1936, the daughter of Theron “Jack” and Rosella “Mae” (Russell) Oakes. She was a homemaker and raised her family in North Liberty. Jackie was united in marriage to William Hutcheson on October 10, 1953, in Holly Springs, MS. In retirement she worked for K-Mart.
Jackie was a social butterfly and was always there for people. She was very active at Kirkwood Church of Christ in Iowa City. She bowled in the women’s league at Colonial Lanes for many years and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Jackie never had a bad word to say about anybody and would give you a ride or make you a meal. She loved her flower garden and loved to share the vegetables she grew. Jackie loved to travel, especially to AK to visit her daughter and go to parks like Denali. She also loved to camp and trout fish and went fishing every year with her son Bill. Jackie was an accomplished seamstress, doing alterations for others or embroidery.
Jackie is survived by her three children, Brenda Williams of Iowa City, Julie (Richard) Showalter of Palmer, AK, and William Hutcheson of Coralville; three grandchildren, William (Sydney) Showalter of CO, Jessica Showalter of Anchorage, AK, and Andrew (Amanda) Williams of Milwaukee, WI; three grandchildren, Serena, and Evelyn Showalter and Wesley Williams with one on the way; one brother, Terry Oakes of Coralville; sister-in-law, Claudes Oakes of San Bernadino, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Hutcheson on February 11, 2018; and three siblings, Greg and Jim Oakes and Ethel Good.
