Hiawatha M. “Bumpty” Green

Hiawatha M. “Bumpty” Green, 101, of Bellaire, OH passed away to her heavenly father and her home in heaven on Sunday, May 15th, 2022 at her home with her daughter, who was also her caregiver, by her side.
She was born on April 8, 1921 in Flushing, OH; a daughter to the late Floyd Wm. Walker, Sr. and Ethel E. (Stewart) Walker.
Hiawatha was a loving and dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother. She was constantly by her husband’s side, working and planning together in the building of their home in 1957.
She loved gardening, the flowers that she and her husband, Ray, had planted throughout the years; the feeding of the songbirds that visited their yard; whistling while cooking in her kitchen and listening to the radio. She had a love for music, dogs, horses, and cats; enjoyed talking with people. Hiawatha was an avid fan of the Bellaire Big Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She had helped many persons during her life.
In the 1950s, she had been a member of the Women’s United Council of Churches in Bellaire, serving as 2nd Vice President. A devout Christian, she had been a member of the former St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church in Bellaire and had also attended early masses at St. John’s in Bellaire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 42 years, Ray A. Green, Jr. They had married on August 31st, 1945. Also, preceding her in death, was a sister, Alta M. Lee; her brother, Floyd Wm. (“Billy”) Walker, Jr; several sisters and brothers-in-law; aunts, nieces, and nephews.
Her late furry companions were “Heide,” “Pouncer,” “Fluffy,” “Be-Be,” “Diamond,” “Sunflower,” “Muffin,” and “Cubbie.”
Surviving are her daughter, Cassandra (“Sandy”) Green, a host of multi-generational nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also she leaves behind “Tessie,” “Kitt,” “Giselle,” “Peka,” “Barney,” and “Munchkin.”
A special recognition and thank you to nephew Clarence Chase for all of his help over the years; to the nurses, aides, and Terra of Amedysis for their care and help. A special thank you to Jeanne Renshaw and family; Mrs. Green’s neighbors; and to Kayla & “Simba.”
At. Mrs. Green’s request, there will be no visitation, just a graveside service for the family with Bishop Michael Tolliver officiating on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery – Bellaire, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amedysis Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Belmont Co. Cat Stray Shun, or to the Belmont County Animal Shelter.
