Helen K. Kanelos

Helen K. Kanelos of Williamsburg, VA died on June 17th, 2021, at the age of 84. Helen was born on January 22nd, 1937, in Vasiliakion, Greece to Panagiotis Dimitrios Kokolis and Katerina Katsoulis Kokolis. She is preceded in death by her husband, George F. Kanelos, and her sister Niki Kokolis. Helen is survived by her two sons, Frank G. Kanelos (Elena), Peter G. Kanelos (Yanna), and her two grandsons, George and Manolis Kanelos. She is also survived by her brother Dimitrios P. Kokolis (Danai), her brother-in-law James J. Kokolis, her niece and nephews Katherine K. Hagopian (Michael), John J. Kokolis (Joanna), Peter J. Kokolis (Christina), and many other loving nieces and nephews. Helen emigrated to the United States in December 1958, and later married her husband, on April 24th, 1960. Helen was a well-known hairdresser, business owner of Giorgio’s Pizza Shoppe (1984-2004), and an active member of the Greek Community. She was an outstanding member of the SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, in Newport News, where she served many roles including, President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society from 1972-1973. She will be remembered by her generosity, wonderful cooking, and her Christ-like unconditional love for all.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM with Trisagion service to take place at 4:00 PM at sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. A service will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 12:00 PM at sts. Constantine and Helen with burial to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
