Gregory B. Neuzil, 89, died at home on September 8, 2025 following a sudden illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, September 15, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.
Greg was born January 15,1936 in Iowa City, the son of Otto and Ella (Miller) Neuzil. In 1955 he graduated from St. Patrick High School. On January 22,1957 Greg married Carol F. Schnoebelen in Hills.
Greg owned and operated Neuzil and Sons Excavating for many years before retiring.
He was well-known for growing cantaloupe and watermelon for over 60 years. Greg enjoyed feeding the fish in his pond, ice skating, and driving his John Deere Gator. He served on the board of directors at St. Joseph Cemetery for many years and was a member of the Iowa (LICA) Land Improvement Contractors Association.
Greg is survived by his children, Dean (Samantha) Neuzil of San Antonio, TX, Margaret Tuthill (Gerry Gogel) of Iowa City, Steve (Stacie) Neuzil of Oxford, Sheryl (Bobby) Beinhart of Iowa City, Keith (Kathy) Neuzil of Oxford, Andy (Erica) Neuzil of Hills, Linda (John) Slaughter of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren, Alex, Nick, William (Kassi), Jake, Cameron, Roman, Jonathan, David, Carolyn (Tommy), Austin and Allison; seven great grandchildren, Rowen, Samuel, Maverick, Leroy, Tucker, Erisa and Dominic; siblings, Virginia Kleis and Jerry (Bev) Neuzil, both of Iowa City, and Martha Neuzil of Vinton; sister-in-law, Fran Neuzil of Solon; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and siblings, Robert, Jack and Mary.
Special thanks to his many neighbors who visited and dropped off food and snacks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Cemetery or the Alzheimer’s Association.
