Glennys A. Smith, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Newhall, Iowa.

Glennys was born on Feb. 26, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Loren and Glenda (Melhus) Wendel. She was a 1955 graduate of Newhall High School. On Oct. 14, 1956, Glennys was united in marriage to Rodney Smith. She worked for Iowa Manufacturing, Kieck’s Department Store, and then for Hy-Vee customer service, until her retirement. Together they raised four children, Kathleen, Cynthia, Allan, and Judith. Glennys enjoyed shopping and fishing trips to Minnesota with Rodney and spending time with her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and a great cook. Glennys was diagnosed with dementia several years ago. Rodney took care of her at home for many years, until the last year she spent at the care center. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Glennys is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Rodney; three daughters, Kathleen (Leo) Petersen of Tennessee, Cynthia (fiancé Rick) Kriegermeier of Fairfax, Iowa, and Judith Urbanek of Cedar Rapids; one son, Allan (Shirley) Smith of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as her siblings and many others who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Jim Wendel.

Memorials in Glennys’ memory may be directed to Living Center West in Cedar Rapids and the Alzheimer’s Association.
