Glenda Lou Burgy 69, Saratoga, CA, formerly of Solon, IA, passed away peacefully in her home on May 16, 2025, from cancer. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Solon United Methodist Church on Friday, June 27, 2025. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with services beginning at 2:00 p.m., led by Pastor Jill Mack. Inurnment immediately following at Oakland Cemetery, Solon, IA. A light meal will be served following the burial.

Glenda is survived by her partner in life, Bob Abbott, Saratoga, CA, children Kyle Burgy, Milwaukee, WI, Kirsten (Aaron) Floyd, Jackson, MO; Bob’s children, Michael (Kelly), Ryan (Tracy); granddaughter, Laikyn Floyd; “California grandkids” Sydney and Olivia.

Also surviving are her brother, Gerald Chaloupka (Kim); niece, Brooke (Dalton) Meyer, nephews, Jerad Chaloupka (Samantha), Logan Chaloupka; great-nieces and -nephews Ava, Gabriel, Silvi, Barrett Meyer, and Leo Chaloupka; aunt Iona Vanorny and several cousins.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents George and Gladys Chaloupka, uncle Elmer Vanorny, cousin Daniel Vanorny.

Glenda was born on October 16, 1955, and lovingly raised by her parents George and Gladys (Vanorny) Chaloupka. She attended Solon Community Schools and graduated from Solon High School in 1974.

In 1978, Glenda was united in marriage to David Burgy of Conroy, IA. Together in this union, 2 beautiful children were born, Kyle and Kirsten. The couple later divorced.

Glenda’s decision to relocate to California, following her divorce, marked the beginning of a profound transformation, during which she was blessed with meeting Bob Abbott. Bob was a truly exceptional partner and caretaker to Glenda over the past several years, providing unwavering love, support and devotion.

During her youth, Glenda developed a talent for playing an accordion. She was fond of listening to music and attending Air Shows in OshKosh, WI with her family. Glenda’s baptism at the Solon United Methodist Church marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to her faith. She found great joy in teaching her granddaughter, Laikyn, the Lord’s Prayer.

Glenda’s most valued possessions were Bob and her family.
