Gladys I. Mizer

Gladys I. Mizer, 92 of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Harry and Nora (Snellenberger) Neading, Gladys was born in Strasburg, Ohio on July 29, 1929.

On August 27, 1946, Gladys married the love of her life, J. Russell Mizer, following his honorable discharge from the Army. Together the couple raised three children, Joseph, Susan and Jeffrey and celebrated over 66 years of marriage before Russell’s passing in 2013.

Gladys had retired from Starlight Enterprises at New Philadelphia where she worked as a bus driver for many years. A longtime member of Salem Evans Creek Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir, she was also a member of the Lutheran Church Women, the American Legion Post #679 Auxiliary of Baltic and was a longtime 4-H advisor.

Gladys is survived by her children, Joseph (Terry) Mizer of New Philadelphia, Susan (Kenneth) Tango of Dover and Jeff (Jody) Mizer of Coshocton; her grandchildren, Kelli (Roman) Troyer, Chip (Amy) Mizer, Kristi (Jim) Lorenz, Angela (Gerald) May, Gina (Shane) Renfrew, Eric (Januery) Tango, Aaron (Angela) Tango, Zac Mizer and his fiancé, Lindsey Reed and Alex Mizer and his partner, Luisa Parish; 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parent and her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two infant sons and a sister.

A funeral service celebrating Gladys’s life will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 11 AM in Salem Evans Creek Lutheran Church at Stone Creek with Rev. Cathy Ammalung officiating. Visitation will be held in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Salem Evans Creek Church Cemetery following the service.
