On Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, Geraldine Mae Vrbicek, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at age 91. Born to Violet and Chester Blaser on Oct. 4, 1930, Gerry graduated in May 1950 from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, with an Elementary Teachers diploma. She then went on to teach in the Marion and Cedar Rapids School System. On Nov. 24, 1950, she married her college sweetheart, Robert J. Vrbicek. They were blessed with three children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They were married for 49 years until Robert’s death on July 12, 1999.

Besides her love of teaching, family (including her two cats) and church, Gerry had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed knitting, baking, music, socializing with her friends and looked forward to wine hour with her neighbors.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Sue (Steve) Safley, Robert (Diane) Vrbicek and John (Maureen Manning) Vrbicek, and her grandchildren, Megan and Kirsten Safley, Benjamin (Brooke), Brian (Molly), Andrew, Kylie, Katelyn Vrbicek, Benett and Elise Vrbicek, along with eight great-grandchildren.

A visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There will be a livestream of the service that can be found at the Cedar Memorial website under Gerry’s obituary under the video tab, starting on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids.
