Genealia Lane Gibson

Genealia Lane Gibson, 103, of Horse Shoe, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 6, 2022.

Born on March 10, 1919 in Richmond, VA, Mrs. Gibson was a long-time resident of Buncombe and Henderson Counties.  She was the daughter of the late Iverson B. Lane and Mamie Dale Lane.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert M. Gibson, Jr., son, Robert M. Gibson, III, and brother, Wilson B. Lane.

Mrs. Gibson was a graduate of Biltmore High School, the retired business owner of Nettlewood Florist in Buncombe County and a member of Central Methodist Church of Asheville.  She loved flowers, was an avid bird watcher, a devoted cruciverbalist, a voracious cook; enjoyed visiting with neighbors, and spending time with family.  She was kind-hearted, charming, graceful, selfless, generous, strong and smart.  To have known her, is to have laughed with her and shared a kind word, whether a close friend or a stranger.  Being humble in conversation, but able to share wisdom elegantly was a special gift for which she was bestowed.

She is survived by her sister, Myra L. Brooks of Corinth, MS, brother, Edward S. Lane of Memphis, TN, daughter, Genealia G. Moorhead of Horse Shoe, grandchildren, A. Michael Moorhead of Huntsville, AL, Suzanne M. Koontz of Knoxville, TN, Lane G. Costin of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Robert M. Gibson, IV and wife Kelli of Knoxville, TN.  She also leaves five great grandchildren behind to cherish her memory; Shane T. Moorhead of Huntsville, AL, Christopher A. Moorhead and wife Danielle of Huntsville, AL, Mackenzie K. Ford and husband Jacob of Knoxville, TN, Bailey G. Koontz of Knoxville, TN, and Robert G. Gibson of Knoxville, TN.

The family would like to specially thank Lori Ann Isaksen and Donna Ward for the care they provided and the love they shared during the last 2 years of her life.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 11, 2022.  Entombment will follow at the Forest Lawn Mausoleum, 538 Tracy Grove Road.

Memorials can be made in the name of Genealia L. Gibson to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care at fourseasons.teleioscn.org.
