Garry Eugene Lamphier, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is living comfortably in his Heavenly home safely in the arms of Jesus after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, at Springs of Life Church, 2300 26th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Garry was born July 15, 1940, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, to Ona and Oscar Lamphier. Garry graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. Garry was united in marriage to Pearl West and to this union, they had two sons; Jarrod and Kris; whom he is very proud of. They later divorced and he married Cindy Hart on Dec. 6, 2003, bringing together a blended family.

Garry led an active life by working on his parents’ farm, volunteering on the Center Point Fire Department as an EMTA. He enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing. After 36 years of working for Rockwell Collins, he retired and began driving school bus for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools. For 15 more years and since he needed to be even busier, he also started to deliver Witwer Senior Meals. He thought it was time to retire again, but soon he realized he could show off his many skills by working for Brookdale Senior Living as their “do-all person.” Garry was the guy to call from anything needing fixing to trimming trees and yard work. He went on to drive for Weland Laboratory. Garry decided to slow down and spend more time visiting with his family, working in his yard, planting flowers, and feeding the birds.

Garry was a member of Springs of Life Four Square Church, Cedar Rapids.

Garry is leaving behind his wife Cindy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his two sons, Jarrod (Joanne) of Lamont, Iowa, and Kris (Margie) of Center Point, Iowa; grandchildren, James, Kimberly (Tyler), Dylan, Jaklyn, Justin, Avery, and Ashley; one great-granddaughter, Presley; a sister, Audrey (Dean) Gamm of Arlington, Iowa; two stepsons, Timothy (Holly) Franks and Matthew Franks, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five stepgrandchildren, Magik, Legend, Journey, Gemma, and Titus; a bonus stepdaughter, Shayna Franks of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many loving extended family members and friends.

Garry is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Roger.

A special thank-you to the staff at Hospice of Mercy for their tender and loving care given to Garry.
