Florine Gartland

Florine Gartland passed away peacefully at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham.

Florine graduated from the St. Mary of Nazareth School of Nursing in 1957 and began her nursing career as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Chicago. Aspiring to be the best in her field, she applied for and was hired as a Staff Nurse at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics (UCHC). She worked her way up to Head Nurse, Nurse Supervisor and she eventually became the Clinical Director of Nursing for Adult Ambulatory Services. She supervised the nursing and support staff for UCHC’s Emergency Department and 30 medical, surgical, and subspecialty clinics. Florine completed her nursing career and retired from the UCHC’s Center for Quality Assurance. Florine attained a Master of Health Science in Health Services Administration from Governor’s State University. She was an active member of the American Nurses Association, the Illinois Nurses Association, and served as the Executive Administrator for the Chicago Nurses Association.

She is survived by her son Thomas, grandson Michael, and daughter in law Judith Gartland.

Funeral Mass: 1 pm, Monday, April 11, 2022 at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Chatham, with Reverend Joseph Molloy officiating. Cremation will be accorded following services, with burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Church.
