Flora Virginia McCarty, 101, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, in Granbury.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7, Friday evening, April 28, 2023, at the Martin’s Funeral Home, 100 S. Morgan St., in Granbury.  A Funeral service will be held at 1 P.M., on Saturday, April 29, at the funeral home followed by burial at Granbury Cemetery.

Flora was born on December 20, 1921, in Granbury, Texas to the late Henry and Mary Johnson II.  Flora married Charles Thomas McCarty and together had 3 children, Charles, Mary, & Clay.  Flora grew up in the D.O. Baker’s Home.  She and her mother did freelance work for Ashley Crockett when he owned the Hood County News.  Flora taught 2nd Grade for many years in Granbury.  She is credited for writing the lyrics to the Granbury school song. Flora would take her mother out every spring to go paint the Bluebonnets.

Flora leaves behind her children, Charles Thomas McCarty and wife Lynne, Mary Bearman, and Clay Johnson McCarty; her grandchildren, Jonathan and McCarty and wife Victoria; and by her great-grandchildren, Jovan, Jethro, and Mirah.

In addition to her parents, Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas McCarty on July 11, 1993; and by her brother, Henry Clay Johnson, III.

Services have been entrusted to Martin’s Funeral Home in Granbury.
