Evelyn Margaret Mathey

Evelyn Margaret Mathey, age 91, formerly of Mineral City and Magnolia, died Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.

Born in Mineral City, on October 30, 1930, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Julius C. and Margaret McDougall Mathey.

A lifelong resident of the area, Evelyn was a 1948 graduate of the former Mineral City High School, the Canton Actual business College and furthered her education at Kent State University at Tuscarawas where she earned her Associate Degree, and completed her Bachelor of Science in Education at Akron University.

For 28 years, Evelyn was the Executive Secretary for the former U.S. Ceramic Tile and later Warner and Swasey at New Philadelphia. Evelyn taught at the R.G. Drage Career Education Center and retired from Union Hospital at Dover where she worked as the X-Ray Lab Secretary.

She is a longtime member of St. Paul’s Community Church at Mineral City where she was the church organist for many decades and also sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Mineral City Historical Society and the Union Hospital Retirees Association.

In her free-time, Evelyn enjoyed writing music, playing the piano, reading, watching classic movies, spending time with her nieces and nephews and sharing her witty sense of humor.

Evelyn is survived by her nieces and nephews, Peggy (Keith) Walker, Ruth (Wally) Gibson, John (Sandy) Mathey, Tom Mathey, Dean (Becky) Mathey, Steve (Debbie) Mathey, Lee (Kathy) Mathey, Connie (Tom) Bowersox, Joe (Jennifer) Mathey, Pat (Jeff) Frantum, John (Bonnie) Stotzer, Mary Ann Helline, and Dale Stotzer, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Charles, Julius H., Russell and Joseph Mathey; a sister, Mary Stotzer, and a niece, Nancy Mathey.

The family will greet guests on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 12:30 – 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a service will begin at 1:30 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Cemetery at Sandyville.
