Essie M. Carter
Essie M. Carter, 96, of Sherman, died Sunday, October 9, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Riverton. She was born September 14, 1926 in Elsinore, MO, the daughter of Ira and Lucy (Fry) Bowman. She married Carlos A. Carter February 20, 1945 and he preceded her in death July 21, 2011.
She is survived by three children, Shirley J. Cooper of Riverton; Ronald D. (Deborah) Carter and Rick (Trish) Carter, both of Springfield; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Glady Miler of Troy, MO and Reva (Orville) Freeze of Elsinore, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Billy Ray Carter; son-in-law, William Cooper; three brothers and one sister.
Essie attended Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman. She formerly taught Sunday School at 7th Street Assembly of God Church in Springfield for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She owned and managed the Haven Motel in Springfield and was also a homemaker.
Visitation: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman with Pastor Adam Cruse officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
