Erma V. Fandel

Erma V. Fandel, 100, died on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born in Webster, WI on June 19, 1921 to Agnes (Holland) and Carl Rowe, who preceded her in death.

She met the love of her life, Joseph Fandel, prior to the outbreak of World War II. They married in September 1944 when he was home on leave from the South Pacific theater. Erma was a registered nurse at that time. After the war they started their family in New London, CT, then moved to Springfield in 1953. Erma was always outgoing and vivacious. She established Fandel’s Addressing business in the 1960’s and was able to work from home to help support her family. In the 1970’s she became a Realtor and received the Million Dollar Sales award. Erma and Joe retired to Doraville, Georgia in 1978. She participated in the Senior Olympics in St. Louis in 1979 on a synchronized swimming team.

Erma loved playing Bunco, cards, Bingo and gambling when she had the opportunity. She had a lucky streak and a winning personality. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph in 1997; her son Joseph, in 2013 and sister, Dorothy Verdegan.

Erma is survived by her children David Fandel, Ann (Mike) Hine, Susan (Martin) Ryan and daughter-in-law, Janie Fandel. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Erma’s family wishes to extend gratitude for the loving care given to her at St. John’s Hospital ER, Prairie Heart CRU, St. John’s Hospital Hospice and St. Joseph’s Home.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Al Kemme officiating.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Peachtree Memorial Park in Georgia.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception Retirement Fund, 2408 W. Heading Avenue, West Peoria, IL 61604.
