Edward “Ed” Eilers
Anamosa
Edward “Ed” George Eilers, 87, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away May 17 from cancer.
Ed was born April 14, 1938 in rural Jones county, the youngest child of Paul and Hannah (Zimmerman) Eilers. His early education was in country school, until the family moved to town where he graduated from Anamosa Community Schools with the Class of 1956.
He started working at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, then Wilson (later Farmstead) in Shipping until they closed, and then Polo Plastics in Monticello in Shipping until he retired.
On September 24, 1960 he married Janice (Plueger) Eilers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Anamosa and raised three children, Tracy, Eric, and Carrie. They were married 59 years until Janice passed away in 2019.
For years every Sunday Mom and Dad hosted Sunday dinner for their family, friends, and whoever showed up. They also enjoyed going to Las Vegas and playing Bingo. In his later years Dad always had corn for his herd of deer in his backyard, and enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his three children, Tracy Heiken, Eric (Krista) Eilers, Carrie (Rusty) Newhard; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Jeremiah) Kraus, Kellie (Tim) Stoops, Mason (Rileigh) Newhard, Natalie Newhard (Luke); and six great-grandchildren, Aspen, River, and Silas Kraus, Saylor and Anton Stoops, and Hayden Newhard. He is also survived by his brother, Galen Eilers.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Janice, his parents Paul and Hannah, and siblings Laverne, Jim, Bill, and Bob Eilers and his sister Joan Schneiter.
Iowa Cremation assisted the family. Per Ed’s wishes, there will be no services.
The family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice and Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care he received in his final weeks.
