Douglas E. Stephens, 68, of Independence, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at Harmony House of Cedar Rapids. Private burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Doug was born May 21, 1956, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Donna Mae (Matejka) Stephens. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 – 1977. Doug was an experienced, self-employed painter and member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved fishing and was a gun enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
