Donna June (Krotz) Fritz, 89, of Brighton, peacefully passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa, lovingly surrounded by family. She was born June 17, 1933, on the family farm in Washington County, Iowa, the oldest child of Frank Arthur and Aneta Ruth (Shebeck) Krotz. Donna graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and attended The University of Iowa. She married Walter Joseph Fritz on April 28, 1962, in Washington, Iowa and they had six children. He died July 7, 2009.

Donna worked at Kalona Savings Bank, the State Restaurant in Washington and Experian (fka Metro Mail) and retired October 1998. She also sold organic produce at the Washington Farmers Market and chauffeured Irene Mae Sobaski and Odella Fritz (LOL our Driving Miss Daisy). Donna had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. She believed strongly in the importance of blood donation and regularly donated (59 times) to the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. Donna enjoyed art, music, playing the piano, reading, photography, and biking. She was an environmentalist at heart and immensely appreciated nature, including growing flowers and bird watching. She especially loved when her children, grandchildren, and siblings came to visit. She was a member of Saints Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She will be greatly missed by her children, extended family, and friends.

Survivors include six children, Jeffrey of Brighton, Frank (Julia) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, David (Margarita) of Cedar Rapids, Lisa Kramer of Hiawatha, Diana Dingman (Glenn) of Bloomington, Indiana, and Angela Fritz of Mission, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; siblings Larry (Sandra) Krotz and Joyce (Waldo) Spencer; and sisters-in-law Bev (Duane) Krotz and Joleen (Myron) Krotz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents Frank and Aneta Krotz; two brothers, Duane Krotz and Myron Krotz; special aunt Lena Krotz; nephews Daniel and William Krotz; and brothers-in-law, Ron Stuckey and Wendell Hogan.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Saints Joseph and Cabrini Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Damian Ilokaba officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery. Open visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church with family present.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be directed to Saint Joseph Cemetery Association, Halycon House Good Samaritan Fund, and Alzheimer’s Association. These memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1169 Smoketree Avenue, Brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Halycon House for their loving care and support of their mother Donna over the years.
