Donald W. Sander

Donald W. Sander passed away on Monday, April 19th 2021 at the age of 80. Beloved husband of 56 years to Sharon (nee Risko); adored father of Lori (Jeff) Polantz and the late Stacey (Eric Gissel) Sander-Gissel; loving grandfather of Brynn, Nathan, Lauren and Evan; fond brother of Kenneth (Judy) Sander; and loving uncle, cousin and friend of many.

Don was born to Raymond and Margaret Sander on April 15, 1941. He graduated high school and served in the Army National Guard of Illinois from 1962 until 1968. For almost 40 years, Don was a dedicated employee of a local printing company, serving as the Plant Manager of their Elk Grove Village, Illinois location. He was an avid fire buff and collector of firefighting memorabilia. Don was a member of the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago and served on the Boards of the Northern Illinois Fire Museum and the Fire Buffs of Illinois. He was the proud owner of a vintage 1971 Maxim fire truck. When not bringing smiles to others by sharing his fire truck in local parades and events, you could find him attending his grandchildren’s many sporting activities and cheering them on.
