On Sunday, February 2, 2025 Don left the Terminal, bound for God knows where.
Don was born on January 19, 1933, in Dakota City, Iowa, the son of Frank Turecek and Irene (Bowersox) Turecek. He graduated from Shueyville High School in 1951 and from the University of Iowa in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955. On October 18, 1957, Don married Shirley Grassfield in Anamosa. They lived in and around Marion and the Anamosa areas. During his work career, Don held varying Information Processing, Accounting, Payroll, and Human Resources positions. Don’s faith in God was extremely strong, and he greatly enjoyed all of God’s creations.
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley, and four children: Shari (Chris) Engel, Keokuk, Iowa; Doug
(Lesa) Turecek, Oregon, Wis.; Judy (Keith) Hawkins, Marion, Iowa; and Darcy (Mike) Edl, Casa Grande, Ariz. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Matt (Sasha) Raes, Amy (Eric) Roling, Adam (Laura) Engel, Aric (Emma Luhmann) Engel, Noah and Caleb (Sky Showers) Turecek, David Bomkamp, Justin and Matt (Lexi) Edl; great-granddaughters: Bella and Gracie Raes and Mae Roling; great-grandsons, Jackson and Leo Roling and Axel Engel, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and sister, Shirley Horak.
As per his wishes, Don has been cremated. The family will spread his ashes during a private gathering at a later date.
