Denysia Bastas

Denysia Bastas, 93, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at her home. She was born on February 13, 1928, in Benton, the daughter of Thomas and Laura (Perkins) Bastas and they preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by one brother, Paul Bastas.

Survivors include one brother, Bob (Yolanda) Bastas of Springfield; two nieces, Deitri (Mike) Brixey and Nicole (Tom) Jett; three nephews, Craig (Rita) Bastas, Rick (Gail) Bastas and Neal (Julia) Bastas.

Denysia was a resident of Springfield most of her life. She Belonged to First Christian Church in both Springfield and Benton.

Denysia was a valued employee for the State of Illinois for more than 45 years. She began her government career in 1953 in the Office of Secretary of State, Charles Carpentier, and later worked for the Office of Attorney General, Latham Castle, as well as the Teachers’ College Board. She later worked for the Illinois Senate where she assisted some of the state’s most distinguished legislators. She was a key assistant to Lieutenant Governor Bob Kustra from 1991, until her retirement in 1998.

Per Denysia’s wishes cremation rites were accorded by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

A celebration of Denysia’s life will take place at a later date. Burial will take place at The Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Benton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
