Delores “Dee” Kathryn Cook Frantz of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at Savannah Heights Nursing Home. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home, conducted by Vicki Standley. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Surviving are her daughter, Amy Kathryn Frantz; grandson, Shaun (Caitlon) Krug; great-grandchildren, Karlie, Leo and Andrew Krug; sister, Barbara (Vince) Fiala; brother, Bill (Freda) Cook; and sister-in-law, Lee Cook. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Frantz; her brother, Don Cook; her parents, Robert D. and Kathryn (Schminkey) Cook; and stepmother, Hazel Cook.

Born on Sept. 9, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, she graduated from Alburnett High School in 1958. She retired from M&W Manufacturing Co. in 2005. She had worked for Sanford’s Office Supply, Palo Telephone Co., and Cherry Burrell Corp. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was a part of the “Sowers” Circle and volunteered at her church in various capacities. She had been a member of Palo United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. She was a 4-H leader for 16 years and a former volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital. She worked at many Linn County elections in Palo.

Delores planned many class reunions for her Class of ’58. She was a lifetime member of the Alburnett Historical Society. She was a Hawkeye, Cubs, and San Antonio Spurs fan. She enjoyed genealogy with her cousins, reading, shopping, eating out, and visiting with relatives and friends. Her best times were with her family, friends, and Amy’s cats Simon, Sadie and the late Shadow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Delores’ memory may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Marion, the Palo United Methodist Church or Every Step Hospice in Mount Pleasant.
