Debra “Debbie” Jane Nugent (Kreutner) was a caring wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She gained her heavenly wings on Jan. 6, 2023, at age 55. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of her funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Debra Nugent under the video tab starting at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2023. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was born to Robert and Sharon Kreutner on Nov. 19, 1967, in Denver, Colo. She became a resident of Shellsburg, Iowa, where she graduated from Shellsburg High School. After graduating high school, she obtained her associates degree from Kirkwood Community College. From there, she became employed at Nissen Universal Gym where she met the love of her life, Richard “Rick” Nugent. They were united in marriage on May 16, 1992, in Atkins, Iowa, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. Together they created their beautiful family with the birth of their daughter, Rachel Nicole Nugent.

Debbie was employed by Collins Aerospace, where she held positions in both Mission Systems and information technology for over 25 years. Her most recent position was as a Technical Manager in IT Cybersecurity where she performed firewall administration for the company. She was very dedicated to her work and especially her team who she loved like family.

Debbie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Traveling was one of her favorite past times, especially if it ended with a trip to a winery. Other hobbies include gardening, scrapbooking, cooking, baking, and shopping. She enjoyed any free moment with her loving daughter, Rachel, attending all her events and key milestones. She had a soft heart for animals, especially her pets. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shellsburg; she valued her church family.

Debbie had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her bright personality and kindness were contagious to everyone she met. She was someone you could always count on. She loved having fun.

Debra is survived by her husband, Rick; daughter, Rachel Nugent; mother, Sharon Kreutner; brother, Bruce (Shelly) Kreutner; sister, Kimberly (Jim) Draker; many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and a great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Kreutner; brother-in-law, Kelly Corum; and nephew, Kody Corum.
