Dean Edward Bartling

Dean Edward Bartling 71, of Springfield, died at 10:35 am, Monday, September 6, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 23, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa, to Vernon Ralph and Marie Bartling. He married Peggy Smith on June 26, 1972.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Bartling; son Christopher (Amy) Bartling of Tampa, FL; two granddaughters, Haley and Alexa Bartling; three sisters, Susan (Joe) Van Thournout, Georgia (Larry) Whaples and Ginny Miller and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Ronald Bartling and two sisters, Kathy Kelley and Debbie Hurlbut.

Dean retired from the Illinois State Police Forensic Lab. He loved traveling, spending time with family and his granddaughters; enjoyed cars especially Mustangs and Hot rods. He also participated in several Civil War Reenactments.

He was a Vietnam Veteran and had the privilege to go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC. His name is also currently on the Wall of Honor at the National Museum of the Air Force.

Graveside Service: 10:00 am, Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Mike Harney officiating and where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County
Inter-Veterans Burial Detail and the United States Air Force.
