Dawnine Joan Schultz

Dawnine Schultz, 87, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021, in Horse Shoe, NC. She left this life with a loving send off, in her cozy cottage home, surrounded by three generations of family.

Dawnine was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin in 1934 to Hanford and Irene Egeland.  She grew up in southern Wisconsin and graduated from high school in Reedsburg.  She met Bill Gooding while working at Truax Air Force Base in Madison, Wisconsin, and married him in 1953.

Dawnine led an adventurous life, serving her country as an Air Force spouse for over twenty years. She made homes for her family far and wide – moving from the hills of South Dakota to the shores of Tripoli, Libya, to the coast of Georgia and South Carolina, to finally settling back in Madison. Always an independent, working mom, Dawnine found a passion and career for accounting. She held positions at various Air Force Bases during military life and eventually retired from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

In 1982 Bill passed away and, a few years later, Dawnine married Bill’s friend and fellow Air Force veteran Bob Schultz. They settled in Cambridge, Wisconsin where they enjoyed lake life, time with grandkids, and a second home in Florida. After Bob passed away in 2002, Dawnine stayed busy with her friends and worked well into her 70’s, doing bookkeeping for two local shops.

In 2015, she returned to the Carolinas with her daughter Tammy and son-in-law Willie, where she met and spent wonderful times with new friends.  Dawnine met every challenge in her life with grace and strength. She was sharp, selfless, and good to the very end.  Dawnine was preceded in death by her father Hanford Egeland, her mother Irene (Hansen) Egeland, her husband William “Bill” Gooding and second husband Robert “Bob” Schultz, her sister Delores (Egeland) Jenks, and her son William “Billy” Gooding.

Living on to remember Dawnine are her daughter Tamara (Gooding) Liddicoat and son-in-law Clarence W. “Willie” Liddicoat IV, her grandchildren Carly (Liddicoat) Clark and spouse Andrew “Andy” Clark, Clarence W. “Casey” Liddicoat V, and spouse Tara (Boll) Liddicoat, her great-grandchildren Lorelai “Rory” Clark (12), Lillian “Lily” Clark (10), Everly Liddicoat (5) and Clarence W. “Wynn” Liddicoat VI (2), her nephews Peter and Thomas Jenks, and her step-daughters Nanette (Schultz) Guzzonato and Rachel (Schultz) Crawley.  She was a special person and true friend to Jeannie, Lonnie, Denise, Edna, Ann, Claire, Carol, Donna, Caren, and Sharen – among many others.

Dawnine asked that donations be made in her memory to Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville, NC at https://seasonsfoundation.org/donate/.

A private graveside gathering will be held in Madison, Wisconsin to honor her at a later date (TBD).
