David Curley Seelbinder

David Curley Seelbinder, 93, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2022 at the Medical Center at Carolina Village.

A native of Rochester, NY, David was born on August 11, 1928 to the late Frank William and Eva Curley Seelbinder. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Carolyn Blossom Seelbinder (2008), daughter Susan Louise Seelbinder (1974), and sister Rosemary Seelbinder Jung (2020).

He graduated from Monroe High School in 1946, and immediately joined the US Army proudly serving in Germany during WWII. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Rochester, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, graduating in 1952 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

David had a very successful 33 year career with Eastman Kodak Company. Four patents were issued in his name, and he retired in 1986 as Unit Director of Sensors and Measurements Group, Manufacturing Technology Division.

After retirement, he built his dream home on the shores of Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, eventually moving to Flat Rock, NC in 1996, then Sarasota, FL in 2010 before returning to Hendersonville in 2019.

David had a passion for playing contract bridge, achieving his ACBL Life Master Certificate in 2019. He also earned membership in Mensa in 2015. He loved to fly sailplanes (gliders), obtaining his pilots license and FAI Silver C Award with the Rochester Soaring Club. He built museum quality wooden boat models, and crewed on sailboat races on Upper Saranac Lake.

He is survived by two sons, John D. Seelbinder of Rochester, NY, and Mark W. Seelbinder and his wife Ellen of Spencerport, NY, his loving companion of 12 years Carol R. Lyons of Hendersonville, NC, sisters Elinor Seelbinder Schuller of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Margaret Seelbinder Reiners of Penfield, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
