Crystal Marie Oaten Miller

On Thursday, August 19, 2021, Crystal Miller, a beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, very unexpectedly went to be with the Lord at the age of 36.

Others may describe Crystal as a gentle observer, once she warmed up and got to know you, Crystal let her wonderful sense of humor shine. She was quick with a funny joke and found great humor in her favorite character, Sponge Bob Square Pants.

Having a true passion to help others and a personal understanding of overcoming potential barriers, Crystal earned a Bachelor of Science major in Psychology: Human Services at Liberty University in May 2007 and continued on to earn her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling in January 2011. Continuing her legacy in life of caring for those in need, in her passing, as an organ donor Crystal was able to enrich the lives of five other people in need.

A loving and compassionate person, Crystal cared deeply about her students with special needs; she had an unbreakable bond to her fur baby, Riley, her dog who was always by her side spending their favorite time together hiking and doing anything outdoors. Crystal loved spending time with her family and friends. Crystal’s personal experience afforded her a profound connection with children with special needs and she truly loved working with her special needs students, championing their every need and cheerleading them on to each success.

Daily she made the world a better place making a difference in her students’ lives as a teacher at the Spiritos School in Midlothian, VA. Although Crystal would be the first to say that it was her students who made her world a better place.

Survived by her mother, Barbara Eberhard Oaten, Chesapeake, Va., her father Michael L. Oaten (Doris Oaten), Thorn Hill, TN, Crystal will also be dearly missed by her brother Charlie H. Bradley III (Lacey Bradley) of Mechanicsville, VA, and her sister Vivian Leach (Yorktown, VA). She is also survived by aunts, Diane Cook (Lin Cook), Henrico, VA, Sharon Lunsford (Skeets Lunsford) of Jacksonville, FL and uncles, Jeffrey Eberhard, Williamsburg, VA and Ronald Oaten (Sandy Oaten) of Charlotte, NC and Dave Oaten of Ft. Lauderdale, FL as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Alvin S. Eberhard, Louise P. Eberhard, Charles Oaten and Margaret Oaten. The special earthly bond that was cemented between her grandmother Louise and Crystal, will surely be carried on as angels in heaven.

A graveside service will be held on August 30, 2021 at 11 am at Williamsburg Memorial Park located at 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, VA. 23188. Bucktrout Funeral Home of Williamsburg located at 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA. 23188 will be managing the arrangements.
