Cordelia “Corky” Smith

Cordelia “Corky” Smith (née Kubicek, born June 4, 1922) passed away peacefully the morning of December 27th at the age of 99.  She is survived by her four children: her son  Michael and his wife Karen, her daughter Jana and her husband Peter,  her daughter Jill and her partner Jeff, and her daughter Mary Beth and her husband Joseph.  Corky was a native of Madison, Wisconsin where she met her husband Paul Smith. They started their family in Wauwatosa, WI before settling in Des Plaines where they raised their children until Paul’s death in 1972.  Faith and family were the centers of her life. Corky was a devout Catholic who a prayed a rosary every day.  She was known for her quick smile and affection for all as well as for her willingness to play endlessly with her 7 grandkids, and 3 great-grandchildren.  She liked nothing better than to get together to share her famous meatballs, watch a game, and play some cards. She is a member of the Madison WI Sports Hall of Fame from her years as a star of a city and state championship women’s softball team.  Her competitive spirit and athletic prowess remained evident at family and company picnics.  She will be missed. Funeral services are pending
