Clarice (Casey) A. Hogan, 84, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away on February 9th, 2025, in Austin TX. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 17th, at St, Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan, IA, with lunch following in the parish hall. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, Iowa.
Casey was born to Vincent and Ann O’Brien on September 22nd, 1940 in Ryan, IA. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Ryan. She then attended Mt. Mercy College, in Cedar Rapids, IA.
On November 28th, 1959, Casey married Craig Ashby of Coggon, IA. Casey and Craig farmed in Coggon until Craig’s passing in July of 1962. In June of 1964, Casey moved to Cedar Rapids where she worked tirelessly as a single mother raising two young children. On February 4, 1979, Casey married Dennis Harms of Wyoming, IA. Their journey was unexpectedly cut short when Denny died in June 1992.
In the spring of 2000, Casey met Stephen Hogan, of Manchester, IA. Casey and Steve shared their love of family, friends and dancing. They enjoyed spending their summers in Cedar Rapids and their winters in Uvalde, TX, until Steve’s passing in October of 2024.
Casey is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Roy) Ayers of Burnet, TX; son Shawn (Wanda) Ashby of Hopedale, MA; stepdaughter Stephenie Hogan of Cedar Rapids, IA; stepson Jeff (Brenda) Hogan of Walford, IA; stepdaughter McKenzie (Mike) Vuichard of Cedar Rapids, IA; and step-son Zach (Chasiti) Hogan of North Liberty, IA. Surviving grandchildren include Brenna and Christopher Ashby; Nick, Casey, and Brielle Hogan; Jackson and Sydney Vuichard; and Ellynn and Montgomery Hogan; Jason (Erin) Ayers, Kayla Ayers, Stephen (Katelyn) Ayers, and Alyssa and Hayley Ayers. She is also survived by her brother Richard O’Brien of Golden, CO and countless nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Anne O’Brien, and her brothers Jack O’Brien and Jerome O’Brien.
Casey was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Hiawatha, IA and St. Joseph’s in Knippa, TX.
The family wishes to give a special thank-you to Dr. Wm. Fusselman, the PCI care team and the oncology treatment center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Casey’s memoriam to the St. Luke’s Foundation (Cedar Rapids, IA), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (Hiawatha, IA), St. Joseph’s Parish (Knippa, TX) or St. Patrick Parish (Ryan, IA).
