Carl William Wittenburg passed away peacefully in his daughter’s home on the morning of Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Carl was survived by his children Derek Wittenburg (Cassanndra Joles), Anamosa, IA, Valerie (Derek) Johansen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Amiee (Corey) Luedeman of Central City, IA, Danielle Moore Wittenburg of Monticello, IA, and Garrett (Rachel Seals) Wittenburg of Marion, IA. Carl also has two surviving brothers, Henry (Deanie) Wittenburg of Oakgrove, MO, and Everett (Judy) Wittenburg of Blue Springs, MO. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his father Rev. Everett Wittenburg, his mother Helen Wittenburg, brother Lloyd Wittenburg and sister Getrude (Wittenburg) Borgman.

Carl was born on March 21, 1952 in Lexington, NE. He enjoyed playing baseball at a young age. He was a left-handed pitcher. His pitches were fast and accurate. To this day anyone who witnessed Carl’s pitches talk about his throw. Carl loved cars and working (tinkering) on them. He would share his enthusiasm of cars with his family and friends. Carl was an avid bowler and won many trophies over the years. He also enjoyed music. Carl played many instruments including the flute, accordion, piano, and guitar. He also enjoyed singing and Karaoke. Carl’s love of music was passed on to his children and grandchildren. Carl spent most of his working career in manufacturing, working at Cascade Lumber, Franklin Equipment, Bennett Manufacturing and Energy Manufacturing as a forklift operator. He finished his working career as a cashier at Kardee’s 151. Carl will be sincerely missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29 at St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church 21069 Prairie Hill Rd. Monticello, IA at 10-11 am with the funeral at 11 am, lunch to follow.
