Brian David Burtis, 63, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away, on Oct. 2, 2023, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Rosary: 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, with visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with Father Aaron Junge officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brian was born on Jac. 5, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert and Barbara (Rothamel) Burtis. After leaving Cedar Rapids Washington High School, Brian enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Sonar Technician on the submarine, USS Indianapolis.
Brian was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed mushroom hunting and fishing year-round. He was a lover of animals, gardening, sports, and cartoons (Family Guy, Simpsons, South Park, and Beavis & Butthead).
Brian is survived by his father, siblings, Karen Issa, Craig Burtis, and David (Jenny) Burtis; nieces, Leila Issa, Deana Issa, Aliyah Burtis, and Meghan Burtis; and nephews, Mahmoud Issa, and Zachariah Issa.
Brian was preceded in death by his mother, brother, Colin Burtis; and beloved cat, Beavis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
