Barbara Lee Gish

Barbara Lee Gish, age 75 of Dover and formerly of Dundee died early Thursday, February 25, 2021, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia.

She was born in Dover, Ohio on February 7, 1946 to the late William Russell Pope and Eva Marie (Gehring) Pope and married Paul Allen Gish on March 1, 1980 who preceded her in death on August 23, 2008.

Barb was a long-time member of the Barrs Mill Church of God where she had served as Church Secretary, Sunday School teacher and was an active part of the Dream League Ministry for many years. She also served on the Church Building Fund committee and was a member of the WCG (Women of the Church of God).

She retired from bookkeeping after working for several local businesses including the United Day Care. She enjoyed crocheting, playing word games, and spending time with her family, Church family, and friends.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Ebodio) Flores of Sugarcreek, and April J. Elliott of New Philadelphia; step-children, Brad (Lana) Gish, Hannah (Jim) Geering, Hillary Gish and Mallory Gish; her grandchildren, Chelsi (Sydney Bauer) King, Kendra King, Race King, Natalia Flores, Tessa Flores, Vanessa (Hosea) Haag-Rodriguez, Lauren (Shayne) Gibson, Sydney Geering, Natalie Geering, and Cheyenne Gish; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include her brothers, James (Linda) Pope and Daniel (Ida) Pope as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barb was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Houvig Hill; and brothers, Eugene, Larry, and Fred Pope.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 10 – 11 AM in the Barrs Mills Church of God, where Pastor Josh Wilson will lead a memorial service celebrating her life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in the Dundee Cemetery.

At this time, the six-foot rule will be honored and all guests are required to wear a mask to enter the church. For the safety of everyone, and to allow other guests to pay their respects, we politely ask that visitors not staying for the service promptly exit the building after greeting the family.
