Alden Eugene “Sonny” Johnson

Alden Eugene “Sonny” Johnson, age 91, of Aurora, IL, formerly of Oswego, IL slipped peacefully from this world to the next in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

He is reuniting with his seven siblings that have preceded him, Jasper Johnson, Margaret Johnson Smith, Jesse Johnson, Albert Johnson, Mildred Johnson Wheeler, Darlene Johnson and Doris Johnson as well as his parents, Ole and Mary (Olson) Johnson. He and his sister Darlene especially dedicated their lives to raising a niece, Jody (Rick) Espinoza of Hinckley, IL and a nephew Seth (Connie) Wheeler of Oswego, IL. He is survived by several other nephews and nieces as well.

Sonny served in the United States Army and was stationed in Okinawa. After his discharge he joined his father on the family farm in Newark, IL. He also farmed in Leland and Plano, IL. After leaving farming he was employed at Richards-Wilcox factory in Aurora, IL until his retirement.  Sonny was always happiest when riding his beloved Palomino, Penny. He was a member of the Fox Valley Trail Riders club and performed in many area parades. He spent his most recent years with the family that is Sunnymere Assisted living in Aurora, IL. A special thanks to Ruth and all the staff that cared for him.  You couldn’t have been more caring.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Homes, 1617 N. Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL with Pastor Steven Lombardo officiating. Interment will take place in Helmar Lutheran Cemetery, Newark, IL.

Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in loving memory of Sonny may be directed to ASPCA.
