Aimee Marie Yakes

Aimee Marie Yakes

Aimee Marie Yakes passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 9, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband and both of her children.

Aimee was born in Elkhorn, WI on December 30, 1971 to Robert and Edite Carter. She had an older sister, Leeanna Wood (Carter) whom she loved fiercely. She grew up and lived in the Lake Geneva area for almost all of her life. In her teen years, Aimee was a lifeguard and sailing instructor at George Williams College in Williams Bay, WI.

In July of 1992 Aimee met the love of her life, Dennis Yakes, at a wedding in Lake Geneva. It was a match made in Heaven, and they dated for only six weeks before Dennis proposed. They eloped to Las Vegas over a year later and were married on September 11, 1993. They built a family together and welcomed their daughter, Alissa, in 1995 and a son, Adam, in 1997. She spent her life as a loving mother and cared for her family as a homemaker.

One of Aimee’s greatest adventures in life was moving out to the country to start a hobby farm with her family. For over a decade she raised bees, chickens, ducks, turkeys, horses, cows, pigs, and sheep. She also had an immaculate green thumb and was an excellent cook and baker. She was self-taught in all of her endeavors, largely thanks to her love of reading. You could find her at her “favorite place”–the library–every week, and after a trip to the library came a pit stop to spoil the dogs with a special treat.

Aimee loved the Lord and lived out her faith by always loving others. She exuded warmth and generosity; her presence and laughter filled every room. She never met a stranger, consistently put others first, and would show up at your house with a hot meal the minute she heard you had a sniffle. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and one of her proudest moments was becoming a grandma in 2021 to her “little miss sunshine,” Clementine.

Aimee’s life will be honored through the joy and love of the family she created. Her wish was for her immediate family to celebrate her life in a private memorial celebration at home.

Aimee touched the lives of many people; if you would like to make a gift in her memory, please consider a donation to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission or the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, better known as The Milwaukee Domes.
