Virginia & Truckee Railroad offers Halloween trains full of pumpkins and spice
- October 10, 2025

The entire family will enjoy this spirited collection of themed train rides on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Passengers board at the F Street 1870s Depot in Virginia City and journey to the Gold Hill Depot Pumpkin Patch.
Once there, riders can hop off the train and choose their favorite pumpkin with the help of friendly attendants before heading back aboard for the return trip to Virginia City.
All train cars are open-air, so dress warmly—and costumes are encouraged! These popular trains sell out quickly, so reservations are strongly recommended.
Pumpkin Patch Trains will run October 11–12, 18–19, and 25–26 at 11:20 a.m., 1:20 p.m., and 3:00 p.m., with a 5:00 p.m. dusk train on Fridays, October 17, 18, and 24.
Fares: $26 for adults and $16 for children ages 5–12, which includes a pumpkin.
The Haunted Halloween Graveyard Train will be the highlight of your spooky season! Brave passengers will meet the Executioner in the Gold Hill Graveyard—if they dare.
The four-mile, 40-minute route between Virginia City and Gold Hill comes alive with haunted souls on October 31 and November 1, offering a chilling blend of Wild West and ghostly thrills.
You’ll ride safely in open-air cars under a half moon, where it’s “Disney meets the Wild West”—scary and spooky all at once.
Trains depart at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. on October 31 and November 1.
Fares: $26 for adults, $19 for children ages 5–12.
Dress warmly, wear your costume, and prepare for a chillingly good time!
