Nevada Guard’s 27th annual Flag Day Celebration, which coincides with the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, was highlighted with ceremony, history and gratitude Saturday at the Nevada State Capital Grounds.
The Nevada National Guard and State Archives helped kick off events with the 250th celebration of the U.S. Army, which predates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the nation in 1776.
The event, which was attended by nearly 200 people, began at 10 a.m. with the Presentation of Colors by the Nevada Army National Guard Color Guard, followed by the National Anthem, welcome remarks and introductions by Alexandra Rae of KTVN 2 News.
The Invocation was done by Nevada State Chaplain Lt. Col. Todd Brown and then remarks by Mike Strom, administrator for Nevada State Library and Archives, which unveiled its “All for Our Country” exhibit.
Following Strom’s presentation was the Five Flag Ceremony, presented by Nevada Air Guard NCO Academy Graduates Association and concluded with the Army Birthday Message by Brig. Gen. D. Rodger Waters, Nevada National Guard Adjutant General.
The program also highlighted America250, where most events are set to run from Jan. 1 2026 to July 4 2026. For more information visit america250nevada.org.
Also noteworthy on Saturday was the unveiling of the “All for Our Country” exhibit at the Nevada State Archives. The exhibit provides historical context for Nevada’s involvement in the U.S. Armed Forces, including a history of the Nevada National Guard. The exhibit is set to remain open through Veterans Day of this year.
